An ΑΤΜ, operating via satellite link, has been installed by Piraeus Bank onboard a Superfast Ferries boat. This is in the context of the dynamic growth of the Automatic Teller Machines network, endeavoured by winbank, the e-banking service of Piraeus Group.
This ATM of pioneering technology, both in Greece and Europe, has been operating since 18 February 2002 onboard Superfast IV, which is a liner doing the service Patras – Igoumenitsa– Ankona an vice versa.
Thanks to the satellite link, the ATM is οn-line 24 hours a day allowing cash withdrawals to all cardholders who use cards of Piraeus Bank or any other Greek Bank connected to DIAS system. The ATM can also be used by holders of any VISA, Mastercard, Visa Electron, Maestro, Cirrus, Plus etc., debit or credit, card, issued by a Greek or foreign credit institution.
In its short period of service, the ATM has been extensively used, which proves that both its place and type meet the needs of the public. Piraeus Bank plans to install similar ΑΤΜs onboard other boats of the company soon, and co-operate with other shipping companies that may be interested, given the current response.
Piraeus Bank currently has a network of 300 ATΜs, which is constantly expanding. There are 90 off-site ATMs, i.e. in areas other than Bank branches, such as super markets, hospitals, entertainment areas, etc.
Piraeus Bank acknowledges the growth potential and development prospects of ΑΤΜs as an electronic channel of banking and other services. The ATM network growth and management are included in the Bank’s principal activities and in line with its strategy to provide top service by utilising new technologies.
